Day 1: After 2 1/2 to 3 hours drive from Arusha you come to the starting point at Umbwe Gate. We walk from Umbwe Gate at 1,800 meters (5,906 feet) to Umbwe Cave at 3,200 meters (10,499 feet). It is the longest day of all. After registration your walk will start via a thick rain forest. Most of the time your walk will be through the forest. You will come to Umbwe Cave camp for dinner and overnight. You will still be in the forest. The average walk is 5 to 6 hours.
Day 2: We walk from Umbwe Cave to Baranco Camp at 3,950 meters. After breakfast, we start our walk via a very steep ridge. It is this ridge that will lead you to Baranco Camp. There is a nice view of southern glaciers and the western breach. The average walk is 3 to 4 hours. Dinner and overnight at Baranco Camp.
Day 3: We walk from Baraco Camp to Karanga Camp at 3,930 meters (12,894 feet). The Baranco wall is what will make your day so beautiful and enjoyable. It’s somehow hard but the slow (pole pole) walk will make you climb the wall to the top. Where you need to be more careful, your guide will tell you and, if possible, assist. The top of the wall is also very beautiful with glacier views. The day is short with an average walk of 3 to 4 hours. Dinner and overnight at Karanga Camp.
Day 4: We walk from Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp at 4,600 meters (15,092 feet). It’s a short day with an average walk of 2 1/2 to 3 hours. From the night before until this day, the nice views of Deken, Kersten and Rebman Glacier will influence you to take a lot of photos. You will acclimatize a little after short break at Barafu Camp. You will rest after dinner and be prepared for the summit hike on the following day at midnight. The average walk to the top will depend on your strength, but normally it takes 5 to 6 hours. It’s a tough night.
Day 5: We walk from the summit to Barafu and later on to Mweka Camp at 3,100 meters (10,171 feet). Your guide will provide you with time to rest at Barafu before your descent to Mweka for the last night. There is an average walk of 4 to 5 hours from Barafu to Mweka. Dinner and overnight at Mweka Camp.
Day 6: We walk from Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate at 1,800 meters (5,906 feet). Walking back via the rainforest you will end up at Mweka Gate in about 3 to 3 1/2 hours.
It’s on this gate you will collect your certificate and have a little celebration with your team. A bottle of champagne will be waiting for you. After the celebration, we drive back to Arusha. This will be the end of your 6 days trekking.
We can also provide another option via this route, either 7, 8 or more days.
You can also take western breach trail to the top via Lava Tower (4,600 meters/15,092 feet) and Arrow Camp (4,800 meters 15,748 feet) to the Summit.
